(0) comments Leading Someone On

I was with a fren on fri and we talked abt the topic of "Leading someone on". What happen is that this fren is actually seeing someone, and she is actually attached. However, she has some problems with the bf, though dunno exactly what. But her actions seems to be leading my fren on, being very considerate to him, through sms, calls and dates. So much so that my fren has developed a liking for her up to that point.

Well, life isn't a bed of roses all the time... But why do some people want to lead others on? Is it wrong or right for them to do so? Frankly, I do not encourage such actions, unless you are really interested. For example, in my fren's case, if the girl is interested in breaking up with the bf and getting together with my fren. Or in general case, I think it is not good to lead someone on. There will probably reached a point when the person being led wants or demands some answers or definite ending. At the end of the day, when it all din work out, all it brings to is and even DISAPPOINTMENT and even HURT. Friendship soured. It is easy for the person who is leading the other on to say that they are doing it purely becoz of friendship. However, I guess some things should not be done overboard. Some kind actions are too intimate/considerate to be considered between friends, even close ones. And if you think what you are doing is getting to that stage, do take a moment and consider your next course of actions.

So my friends, don't lead someone on unless you are geuinely interested.

(0) comments Lake House review

After watching this movie today, my overall feel is so-so. Out of 10, I would give it a 6. For the acting, plot, I would only give a 5. The additional point was for the set that was used. The house is beautiful to be frank. "Seductive even", like what Keanu said in it. First of all, the plot was a little fictional, and perhaps to a certain extent, far-fetched. Due to this, and also the lack of contact between the two leads throughout the show except for one part, I think the romantic feeling is lost. The only part which I felt pretty sad was when she found that the man she was trying to save is him, and he missed the date coz he is dead. And this portion abt him being suddenly alive, was also too unbelieveable. With Keanu knowing that he can communicate with his past self, he can practically do anything he wants, even win a lottery.

My recommendation : Watch it if you got time.

Oh, a fren told me this plot was from a Jap/Kor movie, can anyone verify that? Perhaps with the movie's webby or something. Thanks.

(0) comments Being Late....

Abt two weeks ago, I was with a fren and I was talking abt how nowadays meeting up with people is so easy... esp when being late, just an sms, n the person waiting can perhaps go find something to do in between the waiting time, walk ard a mall or something... Then she mentioned something which I fully agreed... That with this technology, some people will actually abused it and be purposely late. Totally Agreed !!! I find such behaviour disgusting... If you are stuck at work, or by traffic, I can totally understand and I tink these can be forgiven... But some pple will purposely go out late, example, leaving home at 1030H when meeting time is 1100H, and yet knowing that he will take more than 30 min to reach the destination... Worse if he dun even have the decency make an effort to take a cab, or even send an sms out to inform the people he/she is meeting of his/her late arrival... I personally find these actions extremely disgusting... I think they are just socially irresponsible people. So friends, pls exercise some responsbility when you meet up with others...

Saturday, July 29, 2006 || EPL review

Chelsea - With Jose Mourinho at helm, they are very much still a froce to be reckon with. With the summer signings of two powerhouse signings, Michael Ballackfrom Bayern and Shevvy from Milan, there has been intense competition all around the team. Even the special one is learning how to cope with the situation that more and more fringe players are unhappy to sit on the bench all season. This could prove vital, either to make them or kill them. With the main pillars, Lampard, Terry, Drogba, only Terry's place is still pretty much cemented. The two new signings plays similar or not better than Lampard and Drogba respectively. It remains to be seen whether the team can hold all 4 of them and yet perform. My feel is that, the cash factor could be a problem too. Ballack, for example, could have signed for teams like Barca, or Madrid, but chose Chelsea, and I dun tink it is for footballing reason. With players like tat, they hope to win based on an entire teams' effort more than their individual. The Champions League still remains one of Jose's fav trophy. So if he continues to field his stronger teams in CL, their EPL form may suffer, much like what the other 3 English teams will face. Luck has been on Chelsea's side for 2 seasons. Let's see if they got it this term.

Man U - Michael Carrick has been unveiled with Ruud going to Madrid. Carrick though not the best defensive midfielders in the world, he is familar to the English game. Last season, Man U's late form in the EPL is attributed to their early exit from the CL. With less matches to play, Fergie can pick and choose this team and yet bring out fresh players from the bench when needed. If Fergie were to try to overtake Jose in the EPL, he would have to use his rotation policy very efficiently and carefully too. But I still regard Fergie as the best in rotations in the world. Thus, I tink Man U could give Chelsea a run for their money.

Liverpool - Everyone knows I am a pool fan, but I should be as objective as I can. Liverpool has obtained a level of consistency that Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea came to enjoy. Two runs of 11 and 10 wins in a row respectively last term have put them in a respectable position. Benitez has been busy this summer, selling some of Gerard Houiller's back lot and buying some great bargains. Bellamy, Pennant, Aurelio, Gonzalez and Paletta are the 5 new signings. With a already strong team, these 5 players will improve their firepower. However, my opinion is that Liverpool's performance's this term will depend a lot on these signings. To overtake Chelsea, Liverpool got to rotate their players carefully. With the 5 of them, they seems to have the quality to do that. However, I tink it will depend on two factors, one: How fast these signings settled in, esp Bellamy, Pennant and Gonzalez. Two: The performance of Hyypia and how Paletta and Daniel Agger performs when called upon. Last season saw Hyypia slowing down compared to the treble years of 2001, and I dun see him increasing his speed. His reactions has so far been helped by his experience in positioning. However, he is still weak in handling one-on-one situations esp with good dribbling attackers. If Agger and Paletta fits in fine and hold the steady defence that Benitez has built, Liverpool will be in the top 3 in the end.

Arsenal - Arsene Wenger has, so far, been pretty quiet in the transfer market. With the Emirates stadium ready, he now enjoyed the luxury of transfer funds of what Man U has. With the current team, Campbell out, it is still pretty much the same team as last season, which went all the way to the CL final. Thus, a lot will depend on Henry's fitness and performance. He has been lucky to escape any major injury this couple of seasons. If he continued to stay fit, Arsenal will still be very much a one-man team. Arsene's planning in purchasing young and good players has served him well these years that the transfer funds are depleted by the Stadium. Hopefully, this policy continued to serve him well. But I still expected Wenger to pull a few tricks before the transfer window closed.

So Chelsea, watch out, the 3 waves of reds are coming from behind. Dun drown !!!

(0) comments Mariah Carey - Open Arms

This is one of the many songs I like from Mariah... Her voice is fantastic... So enjoy this song....

Lying beside you
Here in the dark
Feeling your heart beat with mine
Softly you whisper
You're so sincere
How could our love be so blind

We sailed on together
We drifted apart
And here you are by my side

[Chorus:]
So now I come to you
With open arms
Nothing to hide
Believe what I say
So here I am
With open arms
Hoping you'll see
What your love means to me
Open arms...

Living without you
Living alone
This empty house seems so cold
Wanting to hold you
Wanting you near
How much I wanted you home

But now that you've come back
Turned night into day
I need you to stay

[Chorus]

Thursday, July 27, 2006 || Letters....

I got a suay day today... sigh... rather not talked abt it... Probably going to catch Lake house this week... will put up a review once I watched it...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Watching the trailer... It makes me think that sometimes, traditional letters are really one of the best ways of communications... and my guess is, one of the main reasons is that, you get to pick your words when you write, you can cancel, erase, or amend when need be... So chances are, the most or more appropriate words are written... unlike when u speak, sometimes a slip of tongue, you said things which might hurt the other person's feelings...

I am watching a chinese movie on tv now... got two quotes from it... here goes... This one was said by a man who is devastated when his wife passed away... and during her death anni... he said this to his daughter... pretty cliche...

"I married your mum coz I can't live without her
I hope you will be able to find one too"

This one was narrated when the female lead is in the arms of the male lead for the first time...

"Knowing him for so long, I never thought that lying here in his arms
feel so right... Like I can disregard what is happening ard us or in the rest of the world"

I guess sometimes unexpected things do happen... Like for example, my TV was well and good this afternoon, and when I woke up after a nap, it died... Expectations, are usually what gave us negative thoughts like disappointment and anger... depriving us of the bliss if that expected event takes place... Imagine if u expect everything to fail on u, everything not to go your way... ur day could be quite a bliss...

Good Night and Good Luck...

Wednesday, July 26, 2006 || How Fast can ONE fall in love?

As I am typing this entry... I am munching away my Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate... If u notice on the left, I did openly delcared that I am an absolute sucker for chocolate... The Cadbury chocolate is my fav one... Still remember being out with a fren and found out that we liked the same flavour... how coincident...

Anyway, work is slowly picking up, as I am in charge of a upcoming event... So got to run thru the preparations and stuff... Going to be a tough one month plus... hopefully I can juggle between relaxing and work... efficiently at least...

Today, my topic will be : How Fast can you fall in Love? Let's go to the extreme in, Love at First Sight.... Is this possible? I used to have such discussions in Uni with my hallmates... My personal opinion is that At First Sight, you will probably develop a liking... and definitely only a physical one... probably with some conversations, small talks of sort... A more deeper and emotional one... However, it takes time for one to develop genuine feelings for another... I think the main reason why so many pple tink that they have Love at First Sight was that, everything went so smoothly after the first meeting... Too smoothly for them to really believe it... Too coincidential for them to believe that both got a liking for each other at first meeting...

I still think that you will need to know a person to a certain degree before you develop a liking... but from there, anything goes... strangely though, your feelings can run wild from this point of time... even without much response from the person, some people can become crazily in love... Just a word of caution when that happens... you got to control where u r going... dun fall into a pit of no-return...

Tuesday, July 25, 2006 || Quote of the Day (25th July)

"Everything great in this world that has ever happened to humanity
begins from a single thought"

I always like this piece from Yanni, Reflection of Passion. Believe it or not, first heard from a chinese movie... The flow of the piece sounded like a small thing, a plant or something, slowly growing as it goes... then blossoming into something specticular... then lowering its tempo after the beauty starts to blend into the surrounding, where all things are beautiful... some crazy thoughts... haha... Enjoy... Too bad I can't find the one which he performed at Acropolis. I always thought it was better than this original piece.

(0) comments Someone to talk and be slient with...

Great trip to Bangkok... but one of the nicest thing I did was actually to buy a book after a great friend made the suggestion to me. As usual, I aimed for Nicholas Sparks' work... and got one titled, "Nights in Rodanthe". Pretty short book for his works... but it was good... Totally not disappointing...

Just coincidentially, just a few days before I left for Bangkok, I was talking to a friend who, like many individuals in this world, DO NOT KNOW what she wants in a man. Perhaps just a couple of small things she definitely want and dun want... like, she preferred someone taller (since she is a little tall for a girl), and she preferred someone more talkative (coz she is a little on the quiet side), and she prefers a chinese. That's all she want/dun want.

I, sort of, agreed with her second point. To me, it is important to find someone u can engage in conversations with... someone whom u can chat and talk for hours, abt anything under the sun... even when ur opinions are differing, u get engaged in a debate, in the end, u still came out of smiling and laughing... and when u r older, and kids r all grown up... imagine the amount of things u can chat, recall fond memories of ur younger days... planning for future ones...

Have you ever been to a boring party with ur frens or bf/gf? Then in the midst of socialling or something, u felt the ruge to slip to a corner and be alone... sometimes when u approached this corner, or bench, there is someone there... he/she will probably take a look at u, and when that happens, u sat down, both of u keeping quiet, as if a silent pact has been made, "No questions... no small talks... Agreed.." The silence seems so smoothing and desirable at that moment of time...

Or when u r walking down a road with ur fren... chatting abt something... then suddenly, silence goes... n u both seems to adore the moment, of just being lucky enuff to be able to share this moment of silence together... not as a couple even... just frens... no awkwardess of any sort...

I guess the point I was driving at is, too many people in this world felt that silence is a void needed to be filled. However, that is not usually the case... True, finding someone who can chat with u on and on and on... is probably pretty important... what abt finding someone who can share silence with? Something to ponder...

Good Night and Good Luck...

Thursday, July 20, 2006 || HARLOW from Suan Lum Night Bazaar

A big HI from Thailand, Bangkok, Suam Lum Night Bazaar... Touched down here at local time abt 3+ pm, went to check in to our, not hotel, apartment... at Boss Towers... quite a big room, though not as classy as hotel rooms, but all the necessites are there... toilet, fridge, towel etc...
After that, took a cab to Chinatown and had quite an eye-opening walk there... we actually went past this place called the Thief's Market... I was pretty curious what they sell there... turns out, they were selling, knives, swords, fake guns etc... so duh... as if commoners need these things... haha...
We walked until hungry... so we were looking for a restaurant... but ended up in a Thai foodcourt... totally dunno what they were selling except looking at the pics... haha... but luckily there was a jap food store... I ordered a Tempura Ramen at 35 Baht... and coke at 20 Baht... 55 Baht for a meal... goodness... tat's like S$2.30 ... non-KNS
Went to Central... I got 2 tops there... at a bargain, abt S$15/top.... Now me and seng are at Suam Lam Night Bazaar.... goodness goodness... HUGE place... can get lost here one loh... probably going to head back early and plan for tomorrow... the weird thing is, most of these Bazaars are all only opened at night... so tink day time can only go shopping centres... so duh... so long for now... from the land of thousands smiles...

Wednesday, July 19, 2006 || Quote of the day (19th July)

"What do you treat me as?
When you are all alone in the middle of the sea
You treated me like a floating board, holding on for your dear life
When you reach the shore, you throw me away like a pest or rubbish"

More often than not, we tend to treat the ones we love as granted, as if they are always there for us, whenever we need them... Read the quote above, take a moment and show them some TLC...

Off to Bangkok tomorrow... the Land of Smiles... yes, again...

Tuesday, July 18, 2006 || Quote of the day (18th July)

"Don't force your guy to lie, he will hate you
Don't trust his words when he do, you will hate him."

I got this quote while watching a tv program today. Pretty interesting... The girl was challenging the guy to do something... in turn, the guy accepted the challenge though he is not in favour of taking it on... And the girl, though she is the one who challenged him, was really unhappy becos she actually prefer a negative answer...

It is strange how humans are always something against their will, just coz of this thing called PRIDE and EGO... Why can't things be direct? Do you need to test water before you do anything? Fear of losing... fear of disappointment... fear of failure... Fear of confrontation... Which is it this time? Perhaps we should all start to follow our desire and do things... Not worry abt the future, nor the past, and what is going to happen... Just like how we were young, and studying for our exams... Dun care abt the failures in the past, nor the results that is going to come, just do your best and hope for the best... JUST DO IT... If your best is not sufficient, so be it... At least you know you tried and give it a shot... at least you can live without regrets... Not everything in life will go the way you want them to be... That's Life....

Monday, July 17, 2006 || Soft Spot

I remembered that when I was much younger and still staying in AMK... I asked my mum to give me a younger sister... BUT sadly, to NO avail... Perhaps that's y I had 4 sisters fr HS... I think my inner desire to have a younger sister caused me to do that... but hey, I am not complaining... These 4 ladies made my life a lot more fun, in one way or another...

Today's topic is Soft Spot... I was in conversation with a fren quite a while ago... and this came into the pic... We actually talked about the fact that there is just certain girls/guys whom someone will have a soft spot for... there is many things which a person is willing to do... Go out of the way just to help this person despite the fact that this person calls once in a blue moon... or worse, the guy/girl is someone whom u will definitely go after if both parties are single... always be there to listen to this person... something like that... Do you have a soft spot for anyone?

Sunday, July 16, 2006 || Love Insurance? what is the premium?

Will Friends suddenly fall in love with each other? This was one of the topics I had with a close fren recently... Is it hard for that to happen? Sometimes there is this initial connection that you had with someone u met... which many termed as chemistry... Now, will this Chemistry comes abt later in life? My opinion is it will... and attributed to this thing called CHANGE... coz pple change, their opinions change also...

On the other hand, another interesting topic is how girls can be touched into falling into a relationship... I tink it happens to a lot of girls... Some guy comes along, treated her like a princess... then one fine day, did something super romantic... then the girl is touched, and got into a relationship... Probably not knowing what's in it for her?

Is there such a thing as in a Love Insurance? Once bitten, twice shy... a very true quote to describe how pple reacts in relationship, including me... But how do you NOT get hurt in a relationship? One of my friends was pondering whether finding someone who loves her instead of finding someone she love could be one of the methods of a Love Insurance... less hurt... to me... BS... total BS... Friends and pple who dunno me... There is NO SUCH THING as a Love Insurance... If u r in a relationship, u will be endangered by hurt, anytime of the day, any day of the week... Here is my opinion for having something similar to Love Insurance...

"Find someone who is willing to give u unconditional love without asking for anything back... and give him/her the same unconditional love... and lastly, communicate your wants and dont wants in the r/s no matter how trivial, and it these needs work, and a willingness to work on it
..."

That is my "almost-perfect" version of a great relationship...

Good Night and Good Luck...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Today, I went to Novena Sq in an attempt to get a pair of Bball shoes. But in the end, the Adidas shop there is disappointing... However, I did hv my lunch there, @ Long John Silver... I was greeted very politely by Jeffrey... Who actually recommended me a Combo Set after that I was pondering for a good 30sec in front of the counter... It did occurred to me that Jeffrey is not exactly one of the bright students who is working there part-time during hols. Perhaps with a little mental deficiency... BUT together with a few other staff there, they are still able to perform their job prefectly. Jeffrey was polite and totally courteous, making sure he asked me all the qns abt upsize n stuff... Angela, who came to collect my tray after I was left with my drink was also polite in asking me permission whether she could cleared my tray... I understand that MacDonalds actually employed our elderly population. Credits to LJS for employing the crew I mentioned with no discrimination... it was one of my best experience at a fast food restaurant. Thumbs UP!!!

(0) comments What Is Your Deepest Fear?

I love this quote from Marianne Williamson. Enjoy

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Thursday, July 13, 2006 || Do Women Want to be Rescued?

A day of medical leave really allowed me to relax my mind a lot... Like yst, I had to toggle between handling my renovation project and controlling at the same time... Pulled out one of my fav sitcom to watch... Sex and the City... This was the topic of the episode...

Do women just want to be rescued? Is all women waiting for a knight with a shining armour? Some super-career successful women have all the money you can ask for in a decent job... Do these women want to be rescued too? Or to have a someone just for company? Some time ago, my fren and I actually talked abt the big change in SDU nowadays... In the past, SDU had the reputation of having not-so-good-looking men and women, with a decent desk job, who will be happy to find someone whom they can hold a 30-min conversation without getting bored... Fast-forward that to today, it now has a reputation of having really successful men and women in the late twenties or early thirties, whom had spent their past years in digging up the success, and is now ready to commit and devote time to a serious relationship, in hope of starting a family, to complete their life... Most of them are clear in what type of partner they want and is fast in trying to grab someone they fancy....

I have a belief... A belief that inside everyone, there is someone, who is somewhat childish, wanting someone else to take care of their wants/needs, protect them when they are bullied, takes care of them when they are sick, surprised them with presents, listen to them when they are in a bad mood, have a celebration with them when their birthday comes... I believe this applies to EVERYONE... including super-career men/women... So not only women, men might also be waiting for their princess...

I guess, everyone has someone who is suitable to them... A quiet girl may need a more talkative guy... A high-ego guy may need a submissive girl... Someone who is hurt and closed up their heart may need a partner who can show them how unconditional love is possible... A not-so-down-to-earth guy may need a realistic partner... End of the day, I guess there is someone for everyone... ugly or good-looking, rich or poor, tall or short...

Good Night and Good Luck...

(0) comments Glory Road

This is perhaps one of the best sports movie I had seen.... Ranked up there with "Remember the Titans"... It is inspired by a true story and true characters. It is abt Don Haskins, a basketball coach at e Women's High School, being recruited to coach Western Texas College in US. In a unanticipated move, Don went on to recruit 7 black americans. And this happen at a time when racism is still pretty much evident in the conuntry of US. But these guys he recruited were talented, and althletic, and they won 23-1 for the season and entered the NCAA tournament. They also met a lot of adversities along the way. Some as extreme as death threats. But they got together and proved to the world, that colour is not an issue in sports, or in anything, and won the NCAA championship. Don Haskins did an incredible move in his attmept to show the world that colour is not an issue, he played only the black players during the Final Championship game. Coupled with Major producer Jerry Bruckeimer, the movie is Great and true down to the scoreline. Surprisingly, it did not even make it to Singapore in theatres.

(0) comments Italy vs Germany (FINAL)

It is all over... Italy is the world champions against all defying odds to lift the world cup after 24 years. The match ended 1-1 after full time and extra time to leave the destiny of the cup to penalties shootout. Not the best way to decide who is the winner, but that's how the tournament is.

Credits have to be given to France, despite being underdogs, came out roaring. Their tactics were clear in attack, pass the ball to Henry or Zidane, rest of the team look for spaces, and let them decide to make use of the decoys or lay a pass. On the 7th minute, that worked as Malouda was brought down for a penalty by Materazzi. Zidane scored from the resulting spot kick with a cheeky flick. The ball hit the crossbar and inside the goal line before bouncing out again. Fortunately, the referee was in perfect position to witness that, and gave the goal. The Italy equalised abt 10 min later thru a Pirlo corner to, ironically, Materazzi. The score is 1-1. The rest of the first half was pretty much controlled by the Italians, however, their attack seems to lack the killer ball needed to threaten Barthez's goal.

After halftime, the French came out roaring, attacking the Italian goal at every opportunity. Unlike the Italians did in the first half, the French were more direct in their tactics, they were looking to break down the Italian defence at every opportunity, looking to try that vital pass. During a few instances, they were almost successful, either to be brought down by the defenders or go down themselves. Henry was very lively in this half, causing major problems to the Italians, who defended in numbers.

The extra period was pretty much similar to the second half, however, Zidane did have a great chance to score a winner thru a header from a Sagnol-cross. Unfortunately for the French, Buffon were equal to his powerful header, turning it over the crossbar. The match is marred by the sending off of Zizou, after he headbutted Materazzi after a conversation on the pitch. With Vieira already out injured, and Henry being substituted, Barthez took over the captaincy. Penalties... David Trezeguet took his penalty confidently but saw it hit the underside of the crossbar and out and that was enough for Italy to win the World Cup. I pitied the French, for I think they played better and more adventurous on the night. End of the day, the German fortune-teller was right. Italy, the World Champions.

Sunday, July 09, 2006 || How well can YOU know SOMEONE?

Yst, was with my one of my dear frens on this topic... Interesting one... Well, we both like Coke rather than Pepsi, which is a pretty common debate... Then we actually talked abt how we both like our Coke to be... Like for me, I like it from a can, non-chilled, and with big ice cubes... She, on the other hand, like it really chilled, from the containter itself... and without ice, coz it will dilute the drink...

Intriguing, if you tink abt the number of such little things u can know abt someone... Just food alone, like how u like to eat potatos? u noe, fried, steamed, with sauce or without.... What abt Burgers? With chilli? is the chilli inside the burger or outside?.... What abt clothes? Like some pple dun like to wear shirt, like I used to... or jus simply love Tees... or cotton material? V-neck or round neck? Low or high cut?... Shoes? Leather? heels? open or close? sports shoes? sneakers? so many things just to name a few....

Indeed, some time ago, I talked abt my fren who jus got married then and how their living habits intertwined with each other... Bathroom habits.... placing of used clothes... cleaning habits.... even the habit of using the remote control... it is refreshing jus thinking abt this little things between people rather than the confusing things like, demands; temptations; faithfulness; commitment... So guys and gals, go learn more abt ur partner... u might be blown away by the fact that u totally din pay attention to these in the past...

Good Night and Good Luck...

Saturday, July 08, 2006 || Just my Luck?

Managed to catch this show today... Recommended by BecKs to me two weeks ago... Quite a nice romantic comedy... abt a down-luck guy and a super lucky gal... and how their fortunes changed after a kiss... and how they fell in love... Quite funny, when you think of how unlucky a person can be... almost everything and anything can go wrong...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Got some stuff settled this week... So I guess it has been a very fulfilling one... work and personal... "One door is shutted, two will open"... this was said in the movie... and sometimes I totally agreed with that... In life, there is usually no definites... answers will not always be YES or NO... no definite victory or defeat... and here is the very common question, "will you try if u noe u MIGHT face defeat?" Changing the question, "will you enter a match if you noe u WILL be defeated?"... I guess sometimes I am abit head-strong, n stubborn... but I think, even if u hv only 1% of chance of winning, u shld go for it !! To me, the process and experience are the invaluables from it... the result may not be what u desire... but at least, u knew u hv tried... and to me, THAT is enuff...

Good Night and Good Luck...

Thursday, July 06, 2006 || Remember the Titans

I love this movie... For those of you who hvnt seen it, go rent one, u will NOT regret it... It is abt two sch, one with blacks and the other whites, being forced to form one sch. As a result, the football team of the sch will have to be mixed... The movie, leaded by Denzel Washington, acting as the Head Coach and trying to bring harmony to the years of hatred between Blacks and Whites, trying to break down Racism in the community they are living it. In the end, the Titans (the football team) showed the rest of the community the way to live in harmony... The movie is really inspiring and touching... here are some clips I found on Youtube

(0) comments Page 2 and 3 - New Paper (6th July 2006)

Today, I picked up The New Paper as usual for my dose of World Cup news... After watching the match between France and Portugal in a half-asleep mode, I need to read more about the match. After that, I went on to the daily news. And the story in Page 2 caught my eye.

Dr Teng, 92, died yesterday from illness. His wife, Mrs Shu, died nearly 4 years ago from a bus accident. Nothing special, but the story lies within. Dr Teng and his wife had a marriage of nearly 60 years. And year after year in their marriage, their feelings frew deeper. They did almost everything they can, TOGETHER. After Mrs Shu's death, Dr Teng would visit her niche often, and he will weep and tell her how much he miss her. Dr Teng also kept her belonging intact, as if she is alive. When Dr Teng passed away, he died in the same hospital as Mrs Shu.

Such stories are often unheard of, but there are definitely many out there. I believe every guy and gal will die to have a partner who will love them deeper and deeper, even when their hair becomes whiter and whiter... I, for one, will die to find someone like that to live my life away.

Good Night and Good Luck...

Tuesday, July 04, 2006 || The Fat Lady sings ....

As the saying goes, "Dun celebrate until the fat lady sings"... Seriously, I hv NO idea where this statement comes from, but I like it... Well, no super drama-mama kind of thingy today, went into the court at 1030H, waited until 1115H... answered a whole chunk of questions, with "YES"... and it's over, just like tat... it is amazing how this kind of proceedings is so simple but yet so time-consuming... Anyway, it is definitely a relief that it is all done... Indeed, the FATTY lady IS singing now...

Was chatting with a fren yst... Somehow, with today's event, some qns came up naturally... like whether I still kept in contact etc... U see, this fren of mine went thru something similar to mine quite some time ago... though she did not hv to face what I have to go thru today... but it was hard for her nevertheless... Anyway, the main topic was her change in opinion in life after such an event takes place... I was surprised to hear from her that it still affects her to an extent up to now... Coupled with the experience of others, like mine, her views have definitely changed. Her faith in relationships is very much shaken, and she sound very pessimistic now, emotionally...

Well, frankly speaking, having been thru 4 very different relationships, I do have many different viewpoints abt it... I still believe in faith... in giving and taking... in commitment... Perhaps, the one problem with modern relationships is the word, DEMAND. With work, occupying a huge part of our daily 24 hours, expectations rose. Pple dun wan to go to an empty home, they expect food to be on the table prepared by the partner, cooked or bought... They expect the partner to fit into their schedule often not realising that their partner had their own to consider... They expect their partner to sacrifice/cancel their programs jus coz he/she is suddenly free coz of a cancellation of something... Well, of coz, I m not saying that my fren is like tat. She, on the other hand, is a fantastic girl who will probably make a great partner for anyone lucky enuff to land her hand in marriage (pple, she is seeing someone liao, dun ask me to intro, haha)... But the statements are general to a lot of pple... even I am guilty of it... Perhaps, everyone should start to view everything as a bonus, rather than DEMAND... the time given to you, the plans made for your birthday/special dates etc...

To be able to give without demanding anything back, that is really difficult, perhaps even unheard of, in this modern world. But if you think back to the past, when keeping contact is not jus a phonecall away. Some husbands left their town for more than 6 mths in a year, just to earn enuff to feed the family. Others go to work at 6am in the morning and dun return until 10pm... They, for one, do not have a handphone to call and "check" on their spouses. Things are so much simpler in the past... less temptations... less complications...

On the question of faith, all I want to say is, if this person can leave you for another one, he/she is not worth your time, and sorrow... GOD will have better plans for you... Think abt this, the next partner you find, could be a thousand times better, treats you better, much more attractive in terms of career and looks, much more willing to sacifice his/her time for you... Then isnt he/she much more worth it than that unfaithful brat/b*tch? Even if it takes a long time before this person comes along... As the saying goes, "The grass is always greener on the other side." These unfaithful pple are those who failed to look at their grass and themselves... All they want is MORE... if so, then how much MORE is enuff? Do they ever think abt how to make the situation on their side of the fence better? Never... Worse, there might be retributions... that I can testify to... So my fren, if u r reading this, it takes alot of courage to open your heart to someone, but it takes a lot more effort to manage and cultivate that relationship... at the end of the day, it will all be worth it...

Well, my frens, Good Night and Good Luck...

Sunday, July 02, 2006 || Soccer girls during WC

I recently asked a female fren of mine, "what is the definition of OFFISDE?" reason is that she suddenly became a soccer fan during this WC period.... so here is her answer

"within the penalty area...
the attacking player is nearest to the goalpost....
with only the goalkeeper in front...
the definition is that there must be at least two defenders,
with the goalkeeper considered as one...
if there is no other defenders, then it's offisde...."

Totally, absolutely WRONG !!! Seriously, I really wondered what attract them to become a soccer fan during this period... is it coz everyone is doing it? or to join the guys in their excitment? anyway, i had a good laugh out of it... haha...

(0) comments Brazil vs France

The better match of the night, France, the 1998 WC winners, ended up 1-0 winners, courtesy of a Thierry Henry far post tap in. The match was exciting, and France really showed their determination. Similar to Italy, France looks like a team to prove themselves in this tournament. Italy wants to shake off all the match-fixing scandals back home, and France, after a superbly disappointment campaign in 2002, want to prove to the world that they are still one of the world's best. If you ask me, I think Brazil played too cautiously and most importantly in an arrogant fashion. They were simply pinned down by France's extra efforts... the extra effort in chasing 50-50 balls, in going for all headers, and to have at least a man on all ball-handlers. Unlike the class of 1998, this team do not boost an fairly talented team in every dept. Rather, this team has a good mix of youth and experience, with Zidance (att mid), Vieira (Def Mid), Henry(Stk) and Thuram(Def) as the leaders in every part of the pitch, guiding the youngsters and those who did not experienced the 1998 victory.

The first half saw Brazil having ZERO shots on goal, yes ZERO shots. By the current world champions' standard, that is not acceptable. France literally camped in the Brazil's half for more than half of the 45 min. The highlight of the half was
Zidane's dribbling past 3 defenders and releasing Vieira on the break. Juan brought him down, and was lucky to receive a yellow card instead of a red as he was the last man back.

The second half was sprang to life when Henry scored from far post through a Zidane freekick. Brazil simply forgot about him, perhaps, doubting the Arsenal man's heading ability. Once France scored, Brazil was suddenly playing with a high sense of urgency. However, it was too little too late, as France's defence held strong to deny the world champion another title.

On paper, Brazil had the best starting 11, best depth on the bench, and strongest overall play. At the end of the night, it was France's determination, coupled by Brazil's lack of hunger that brought France the victory.

(0) comments England vs Portugal

A 0-0 draw, once again, for England. Portugal goes through to the Semis after a 3-1 penalty shootout win. A lousy match by these two countries' high standard. Portugal were clearly missing Deco in the heart of midfield, spraying passes around to the flanks. His replacement, Petit, is more of a defensive midfield holder than a playmaker. They had to rely on Figo and C. Ronaldo's flank switching, full backs overlapping, esp Miguel on the right, and Maniche with an occassional long range shot to try to break down the tough English defence. To be frank, Solari did not have much in his arsenal to fire past the English defence. Their only forward, Pauletta, is reduced to more of a spectator by John Terry and Rio Ferdinand. However, with the replacements after the crazy match against the Netherlands, I would have to credit Solari for his tactics which kept England on their toes. The midfield was also industrious in helping the defence.

England, on the other hand, had their full starting line-up back after Gary Neville recovered from a calf injury. But Eriksson elected to go for a "safer" 5-man midfield, leaving Wayne Rooney alone up front. As potent as Rooney is, he is not much of use alone in front. Throughout the evening, he was trying more to link up the midfield and defence, holding up the ball for his teammates to advance. His potential is not tapped, unlike in Man U. With Portugal's makeshift centreback, I would think that England will go for the kill by playing two forwards instead. The extra work by Rooney makes him frustrated, as England could not string up the passes for a potential killer shot in front of goal. This is evident when he tried to win the ball and stepped on the Portugese defender. C.Ronaldo, despite being Rooney's Man U teammate, protested to the referee for a card, and Rooney pushed him in displeasure. Whether is it the step, or the push, I would say Rooney deserved his red card, for his inability to keep his emotions under control.

Another puzzling tactic is Eriksson's insistence in playing Lampard as the more attacking midfielder rather than Steven Gerrard. Throughout the whole tournament, Lampard's form has not been going well. Flicks, long range shots, volleys, close range, headers, nothing, absolutely nothing, is going Lampard's way in offence. I would think Gerrard will be preferred for that attacking role after his equally impressive season with Liverpool, but Eriksson thinks otherwise.

In the end, England paid the price for playing wrong tactics, and not practising on their penalties. In a tournament like this, penalty shootout is always a possibility, even against the weakest team. This, I hope, will be remembered by Steve McClaren for the 2008 European Championships.

Saturday, July 01, 2006 || Germany vs Argentina

That's it, the host is in the Semis... not surprising though, through penalty shootout... Argentina paid the price of their judgement and weakness... In one of my previous post, I stated this about Argentina:"One of the negative factors for this team is the lack of height and aerial power in defence. This could prove to be a deciding factor against team strong in the air." True enuff, Germany scored the equaliser thru Klose, after a flick from Boroski... All match, Argentina looks uncomfortable in the air, winning about less than 40% of the headers... On the other hand, or team, the two centrebacks are still inexperienced. After being 1-0 down, Argentina got 2 to 3 opportunities when the two centrebacks were made some dangerous passing at the back and the Argentine strikers got the ball... However, unlike in previous games, they could not capitalised on those chances. Jose Pekerman made a terrible mistake of taking out Riquelme and putting in Cambiasso, a defensive midfielder. With no playmaker, Argentina was contented to defend and when the chance to attack, they din threatened... They just kicked around without much purposes. In the end, Germany equalised and it's all history... Sad that Argentina had to go out like that... Really sad

(0) comments Disappointment came, what now?!

Previous entry, I spoke abt the disappointment of missing out on the France trip, something which I have been looking forward to, very much... These few days have been twisting and turning... Apparently, there is a detachment in Nov to Australia... And I have fought for my "right" to go, since I lost out on the France trip... then came a call from Chipmunk today, telling me there is a slot to go to US for another similar course as the French one, on-going two weeks later... This time, I only bear a little hope... Afterall, it is something too sudden and abrupt to think that it will actually happen... Of coz, if I go for the US one, then the Australia one will probably be given to someone else... but nevertheless, I thank Chipmunk and my boss for fighting for me for these courses and detachments.

Disappointment has came for the France trip, what now?? US or Aust?? I would definitely prefer US... Fingers crossed...
