Thursday, July 24, 2008 || What exactly does marriage comprise of?

Yst evening, I was home with Gracie and we saw "My Best Friend's Wedding" on HBO. Those of you familiar with the show, could probably relate it to the recent movie named "Made of Honour"... Well, it is abt the female lead, Julia Roberts, notified that her best friend is getting married and realise that she has always been in love with him all this while. Then she was invited to be the maid of honour, or Bridesmaid, by the fiancee. Then the whole series of things happening, where Julia basically try everything to break them up...

The thought came to my mind, "What exactly does a marriage comprise of?" and where exactly is the turning pt? Turning pt as in, when can you say, "I have decided not to get married"... Is that possible? Coz in the show, the leads were trying to cancel the wedding the day before the wedding... I understand that there are people who get cold feet and stuff... But what if you realise that there is something so difficult to accept in your future partner the day before the wedding? Do you back out? Or jus carry on... One of the main reason why I think there are so many divorces in the world, is the serious lack of proper choices.... They din choose properly when they got together, they din choose properly how they wan to live their life... and when one party comes interfering in another's life, all hell's break loose... The other aspect is communication. Due to the stupid nature of society now, couples no longer communicate like our parents' time... I used to hear my parents chatting late into the night abt what to do with my english becos it is so poor, and whether or not, they should hire a tuition teacher for me.... This among other things they talked abt... But basically, they talked... With the fast-paced life, this usually do not happen.... we often forgot the basic things in life, which resulted in terrible disasters happening...

Friday, July 11, 2008 || LA - San Franc

The next 3 days are to San Franc... The same thing happened, we woke up at quite an early timing to be picked up for the main station bus change... The trip was as usual tiring... However, unlike the trip to LV, the drive to San Franc is very scenic, becos we are almost by the coast the whole day... You can see some small towns by the coast, with some small estates by the beach... But with San Franc being so cold throughout the yr, I seriously wonder if the beach is fun at all... But it would sure be nice to stay next to the beach... We stopped by 2 places. One is a town called Solvang, which is a town with a lot of Danish immigrants... And due to that, there is a very high Danish flavour in this town... The products, the buildings are all similar to those in Denmark... The next stop is Hearst Castle... Unlike the castles in Europe with long history and stories of royalties, this castle was owned by a super rich newspaper tycoon in US. His mother brought him up loving art, so he spent the latter part of his life collecting art pieces, artifects to be incorporated into his castle. His castle has more than 100 rooms, each room space is definitely bigger than an average hotel room. But what is amazing is, the tour guide for the castle actually said, he owned so much of the land nearby the castle, that when he stand in his main bedroom balcony, "Whatever he sees, he owned them".... And this castle is built on high ground, so you can imagine how much land he owned then... Goodness...

The next day was spending on going around San Fran, including the famous flower street, and of coz the Golden Gate Bridge... We also visited another popular tourist attraction which is Pier 39.... we spent our lunch there, and fortunately, the EURO08 final was on tv in one of the restaurants.... How cool... I missed almost the entire EURO08 due to preparation of wedding, renov, moving, honeymoon in US, at least, I din miss Torres's goal that win the EURO.... By the time we finished it was abt 3+... and we took a bus ride to the next hotel. Luckily for our bus, we get to stay in a 5-star casino hotel. The hotel is new and nice... the funny thing is, we were entitled to get a international buffet at US$10. And will get a card with slots machine with $10 inside as credit. In the end, I won $11 with that card...

Next day, is to Yosemite National Park. The views aint as nice as Grand Canyon, but the weather is definitely not as hot... so it was more cooling than anything else... The hoover dam stop was brief... Though I recognise some of the areas used to shoot the Transformer Movie...

Sunday, July 06, 2008 || Sea World - Las Vegas

The second day was a nice trip to San Diego harbour and Sea World.... The harbour is cool... I have never see so many aircraft carriers together at one time before... Man, if I am in US, it will be cool to join the military there... We took a short boat ride around the bridge and the harbour, and proceed to Sea World. This theme park isnt exactly big very big, but it is nice. The animal shows were all really enjoyable, and if you happen to go there, pls do not miss any of the shows... from Shamus to dolphines, to sea lions...

The 3rd day was a tiring long drive to LV, it is quite torturing actually. Though I only met up with the rest of the bus at 9am, while the other passengers had to wake up at 6+ to meet at 7, Gracie and I were still a little jet lagged. The trip there was sweetened by a stopover in between to one of the big "discount outlet" store. According to the tour guide, discount outlet store came abt when some big brand manufacturers want to burn their defective items... there you go...

Arriving at LV at abt 530pm. Gracie and I took the 1.5 hrs break to go and shop ard the old Vegas area, the one that Li Nan Xing shot in one of the TCS gambling movies. Dinner was followed by a night tour, extra from the tour guide (which means paying), to some of the nicer night places, including the Venetian and the musical fountain. I took a shot at one of the slots machine playing for abt 30min, with 10 bucks. and end up, I made 1 buck... wth... waste of time...

The next day see us spending the day at Grand Canyon... and WHAT A SIGHT !!!! It is just amazing how nature made this grand sight... We decided to spend money on a Helicopter ride which brought us to the Colorado River which is at the bottom of the canyon... all I can say is WOW !!! In the evening, we realised one of the discount outlet centre is nearby and decided to take a cab there. Unfortunately, they closes at 9pm, so we had abt 2 hours plus to shop... I managed to find adidas and nike discount outlets and get some socks and shorts... The shoes were not exactly very much cheaper, so I decided to pass on them... Gracie bought a load of items from Osh Kosh and some other branded outlets....

The 5th day was another long drive back to LA.... With the discount outlet stop again. This time, I managed to get a couple of items for my 2 beautiful receptionists during my wedding... We reached LA abt 6+, but we only got to our hotel at almost 8pm during to the multiple drop-offs to the various hotels... Seriously, why can't they just put everyone in the same hotel? sigh...
I will upload some pics once I get them ready...

Thursday, July 03, 2008 || Wedding Over, and Honeymoon !!!

Finally the wedding is over, and I have some time to rest. These 3 mths have been hectic to say the least.

But somehow, my life is becoming like that... work, going home, meeting up with friends... It hasnt been easy to change job. Life was about gossiping, lunching, bitching, most of all, friends and more friends... my new job scope hasnt allow me to do that... less chatting... pple r doing their own work most of the time... and my performance bonus for this yr is sure lousy, i really dun hv motivation to work... now the motivation is abt the money i m getting on every 10th... thats all... and preparing for the future. If I have sufficient savings to leave the force now, and not worried for 6 mths, I WILL !!! fact of matter is, the wedding and hse have drained a huge portion of my money, leaving me little for emergency, least to say, job changing... and when the promotion comes, it was just too tempting... funny, that i even went to Bugis Guan Yin temple to get a divine lot. The key sentence was, The time is not ripe to achieve your ambitions. Indeed, I do have an ambition in mind, and working towards it.

Life in USA has been fun. I din noe it was a peak season with many asians, and locals traveling at the same time. And while I chose LA as my destination, so did a lot of people. The first day was fine. Reaching LAX at 1130am certainly helped the situation. By the time I got to my hotel, it was 230pm. Of coz, there is some jet lag to consider. I was glad I took the flights which has a transit stop at Tokyo. God bless... At least, I got some time to stretch my legs and body. The second day was to San Diego Sea World. We got a little hiccup with lunch. As per all theme parks, they want to squeeze every penny out of you. So I brought lunch from the San Diego bay, so Gracie and I have to finish the food outside before going in. The park was fun... the Shamu and dolphin show were fantastic. We also got to see the other exhibits by the end of the day.
