I broadly divided out these things into these categories, and here are my comments on them to…

Physical Attraction

This is one of the most basic things which everyone looks at, and definitely one of the initial criteria. There was ever someone who said over a radio program, “What’s wrong with demanding that my partner is good-looking? I have to face him for the rest of my life.” Well, reasonable demand I guess… And it ranges from looks, to height, to even what many girls term as “a cute butt”, guys may look at things like, figure, hair, boobs size etc… Well, there are others who think that people who placed this as first priority are shallow… Is that true?

Chemistry

This is something which is not easy to explain, but girls tend to be better and “thriving” on this when it comes to love… “There must be chemistry between me and my partner, so when I see him, I will know it is him.” Some people use this as a reason (valid or not I dunno, maybe dun wan to use physical attraction coz they are scared to be called shallow) for love at first sight…

Financial Security

This is one hotly debatable topic as it tends to varies very differently between guys and girls… Guys who are usually more financially stable need not have this… This is mainly due to the traditional thinking of pegging the guy as the bread winner… Whereas girls will have a tendency to view this as a higher priority than men, for the same reason as well…

Emotional Security

This comes from a few angles… Firstly, the need to express your love… Everyone has their own way of showing affections, sometimes, even scolding someone is a showing of affection… However, others, or rather the mass public, tend to use the traditional methods such as kissing, hugging, sending sweet sms, saying I love you, buying flowers and gifts etc… Having the correct amount gives someone emotional security, the feeling that your partner loves you, and will never do anything to harm you in any way… Whether it is fake or real, the purpose is there for you to see…

Compatibility

This is perhaps the most difficult to explain… I always put this, away from chemistry, becos of what I think it entails… Chemistry entails more of the feeling you got for each other, including how tolerable you are to his/her flaws (if they are flaws to you in the first place)… Whereas compatibility places more on lifestyle, likes/dislikes, living habits and character… Like example, a very sporty girl can end up with a nerdy guy, and who can explain it? Many say it is a case of opposite attracts… But it doesn’t work for everyone, or every couple…

So what is your priority list? For guys, there is a tendency to put physical attraction higher and financial security lower, not at the extreme first and last though…. For girls, physical attraction tends to be lower than guys, and perhaps emotional security…

Whatever you choose in your list, do think long term instead of short ones, people who think short ones tend to end up in break-ups or even divorces…
