Sunday, December 14, 2008 || Pool's problem

I just spend another 2 hrs of my life watching Liverpool FC and damn am I disappointed. But from this match, you can easily identify Liverpool's problem. The main problem is mentality. The players have the urgency to NOT LOSE... but dun hv the mentality to want to win it. To me, that's the difference between a championship winning team and not. Though the team once again proved they are the comeback kings if England, but this ain't Champions' League knockout stage. A draw is almost equal to nothing. Earlier in the season, when Liverpool is chasing top spot, they were trying to win every game. Now that they are there, they are trying not to lose games. At the rate this is going, if Liverpool still hold top spot in the league after the turn of the year, then I will tell you, it is down to one thing LUCK. I am utterly disappointed abt their performance. If they can play so well when they are behind, why can't they play why when they are on level terms? Only Rafa can answer that.

For now, I am going to stay away from the games a little... Maybe enjoy a few of the Man U or Chelsea games, just to support the underdogs of those matches for the fun of it. For now, as a Liverpool fan, I say they are not worth watching for the moment.

Let's see if Ramos can turn Real Madrid's fortune ard tonight at the El Classico.

Sunday, December 07, 2008 || Not-so-good Performance with 3 pts

yesterday's performance by the reds were not convincing to say the least... however, a good thing which fans should be happy is that they still manage to get 3 pts... the old chelsea under Jose Morinho had that characteristic when they won their trophy 4 years ago... many would remember the many 1-0 wins they clocked, esp the xmas period where they won without performing well...

Rafa is starting to experiment with the line-up again. However, unlike last few seasons, he will make abt 4 changes per games, which is typical of bigger teams... Ryan Babel, Yossi Benayoun, and Emil Insua were given rare starts in yst's game...

the first half is lousy to say the least, lots of possession but nothing to show, no real attempt... Ryan Babel was disappointing... with all the promise from Ajax, there is nothing to show... He was lazy and slow... Lazy to track back and defend, lazy to make runs... with his speed and skills, I think that he dunno how to make use of his qualities... He is like Thierry Henry in many ways... powerful shooting legs, comfortable on the ball with both left and right feet, and most importantly, speedy... Henry is so good becos he make diagonal runs in between defenders, get into positions in between defence and midfield, and makes good decisions... I believe Steven Gerrard would provide a good mentor or role model for Ryan, but doesnt seems so... He had not been developing his decision making and timing of hs runs... And worse is, he is complaining of insufficient chance to shine in the starting line up... if he is showing this sort of performance in training, I think it is easy to choose players like Riera, Kuyt or Benayoun over him....

Benayoun, in my opinion, has lost some of his old self... When he was in West Ham, he is the main player, similar to Gerrard in Pool... So he takes on a certain responsibility of playing making upon himself... Nowadays, he is JUST ANOTHER PLAYER in pool... No more dazzling runs down the flank, no more cheeky flanks etc....

Out of these 3, Insua is the only one who perform well. Though he is not as attacking as Aurelio, or as hard tackling as Dossena, but I think he is a good mixed between the 2... He has above average speed, so he doesnt really allow players to get past him with a burst of acceleration... His decision making is not yet matured, but given more time, hopefully, he will be more proficent... He made a few occasional runs down tbe left flank... However, he and Babel could not combine well in any occasions... With Aurelio being injury prone in his time in Pool, Dossena not yet fully settled in the country, Insua could just have the chance to develop and accumulate more first team experience... I believe the future is bright for this youngster...
